2010 WV LIVING Reader Photo Contest

West Virginia is a scenic postcard: a barefoot child splashing in mud puddles, the serenity of fog circling snow-covered mountains, a rugged barn nestled against a hillside. At WV LIVING these are the scenes we treasure.  We are pleased to announce our first annual reader photo contest that celebrates living in West Virginia.  This is a chance for you to share with us those magical moments that you’ve captured through the lens of your camera.  The winners will be featured in the magazine and all entries will be prominently displayed in the Rotunda Art Gallery at Glade Springs Resort.

Contest Deadline:

All entries must be received no later than April 1, 2010. Images must be taken in West Virginia no earlier than April 1, 2007 and must not be previously published.

Please follow instructions below for submitting photographs. Photos are not accepted via email.

How to Enter:

Entries will be received from December 1, 2009 to April 1, 2010. All entries must be received in the WV LIVING office by April 1 to be eligible for the contest.

Photos must be submitted framed and on a CD. On the back of the framed photograph, please include photographer’s name, title of piece, address, and phone number. There are no size restrictions. This will ensure that the representation is the photographer’s complete vision. All framed photographs will be displayed at the Rotunda Art Gallery at Glade Springs Resort for one year. After one year, the framed photograph may be picked up at the resort. Entries will only be accepted per the requirements below:

Each framed photo must be accompanied by a completed entry form and a CD containing the digital image. Click here for contest entry form.

High-resolution (300 dpi or higher) digital photography submitted on a CD. Each image must be high- resolution and at least 8” by 10” image size, and in .jpeg, .jpg, or .tif format.

You must include a framed print of your photograph. We use the framed print for judging and for display.

Prints and disks will not be returned, however the framed print may be picked up by the artist after it has been displayed for one year. Please make sure you have copies of your submitted photos for your own personal use.

Each photo must be accompanied by a completed entry form.

Submission Requirements:

  • All photos must be taken in West Virginia after April 1, 2007.  An entrant must hold all rights to a photograph and is responsible for securing permission of people in photo(s) prior to submitting them.
  • Each photographer can submit up to three photographs. An entry form needs to be completed for each submission.
  • Photos previously published or pending publication or that violate or infringe on another person’s copyright are not eligible.
  • By entering the contest, entrants grant WV LIVING the right to publish and use submitted photos in print or electronic form in a future issue or issues, for advertising and promotion of the magazine, and for exhibition. Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit.
  • Photos will not be returned. WV LIVING is not responsible for lost or damaged photos.
  • The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.

Judging:

Judges will review eligible entries and be solely responsible for selecting the winners of the WV LIVING 2010 Reader Photo Contest. Decisions of the judges will be final.

First-, second-, and third-place winners will be selected. All winners and an assortment of photographs will be published in the Summer 2010 issue. All entries will be displayed in the WV LIVING exhibit at the Rotunda Art Gallery at Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, WV.

Winners will be notified by mail.

Prizes:

First Place: 3-night stay at The Resort at Glade Springs with a $1,500 resort spending credit and a one-year subscription to WV LIVING

Second Place: 3-night stay at The Resort at Glade Springs with a $1,000 resort spending credit and a one-year subscription to WV LIVING

Third Place: 3-night stay at The Resort at Glade Springs with a $500 resort spending credit and a one-year subscription to WV LIVING
